Job description for Non-residential Course Leader

Main purpose of the Job                                                                                   Reporting to: YLS Manager

 

To take responsibility for the overall success of the course, ensuring that lessons and the leisure programme are delivered in accordance OISE criteria to the maximum benefit of students.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Co-ordinates and chairs the pre-course meeting, ensuring that all team members are adequately briefed and duty rotas allocated. 
  • Manages the course daily, supervising the staff rota, monitoring the performance of course staff as well as the satisfaction levels of the students (through First Impressions Reports, End-of Course Questionnaires, and first hand evaluation).
  • Ensures the safety and welfare of the students at all times, liaising with the Host-family Co-ordinator, Customer Care team and sales staff as appropriate.
  • Manages the financial success of the school, controlling expenditure to within agreed budgets, monitoring classroom loading, leisure costs, managing petty cash and reconciling expenditure at the end of the course.
  • Liaises with the host-school representative to ensure a smooth relationship and maintain standards.
  • Reports regularly to YLS Manager on day-to-day events during the course.
  • Welcomes the students on the first day, explaining the academic programme and expectations co-ordinating the placement testing and allocating students to groups
  • Creates the timetable in relation to student numbers and requirements and allocates teachers to classes.
  • Observes teachers and provides feedback on performance ( once during the teacher’s first week and periodically thereafter
  • Takes responsibility for the leisure programme, ensuring that the pre-planned activities are delivered to a high standard within agreed budgets.
  • Conducts a student meeting daily to explain details of activities and other information
  • Handles welfare and disciplinary issues during the school day (09.15 - 17.15) and oversees the supervision rota at morning break, lunch time and afternoon activities.
  • Monitors student performance and satisfaction through student reports, classroom records, weekly progress checks, end-of-course certificates etc ensuring that these are completed punctually.
  • Unpacks and packs academic resources at the beginning and end of the course and monitors usage, reporting any missing or damaged materials to the Academic Manager.
  • Teaches as required on all courses as emergency cover.
  • Welcomes visitors to the programme as required (e.g. third party agents, colleagues from OISE, language agencies, inspectors from British Council etc.)

 

 

Qualifications and experience

 

  • TEFLQ or TEFLI
  • Experience of managing a team
  • Experience of working with young learners
  • CRB Disclosure. If this has not yet been obtained, OISE will assist with and pay for an application on acceptance of a job offer.

 

 

Requirements of the Job

 

  • Attendance at pre-season training
  • Attendance during the course Mon-Fri 09.00 – 17.15 as well as outside these times when necessary and in cases of emergency.
  Payment

 

  • £500 per week plus statutory holiday pay calculated on a pro-rata basis
